If standing somewhere and wondering what on earth to do with your hands sounds like your worst photoshoot nightmare, good news – we don’t have to do that!
I’m a big fan of building photoshoots around doing something. Grab coffee, ride bikes, cook dinner, go bowling, jump into a lake — anything that gives you a reason to move, talk, laugh and forget about the camera for a while.
And it definitely doesn’t need to be something spectacular. Sometimes the best idea is simply something you already love doing together.
So instead of planning a list of poses, here are 57 activities you can actually experience while I happen to photograph you.
Kavos pertraukėlė
Probably one of the easiest additions to a city photoshoot. Grab your usual order, find a cosy corner and have a little coffee date while I photograph everything happening in between.
Bonus points if it’s freezing outside and we desperately need those coffees anyway.
Cake, cinnamon buns, tiramisu, croissants — choose your weakness. Sharing dessert gives you something to do, creates plenty of tiny interactions and, most importantly, gives us an excellent excuse to eat cake during a photoshoot.
McDonalds stop
Wedding clothes + French fries? Absolutely.
A McDonald’s stop is especially fun when the rest of the day has been beautiful, elegant and carefully planned. A little unexpected chaos makes the story even better.
Vyno degustacija
Instead of simply holding wine glasses for a photo, make an actual experience out of it. Visit a vineyard, choose a few wines to taste and spend an hour slowly wandering, talking and trying something together.
Especially lovely for destination sessions in wine regions.
Cocktails at bar
Find a beautiful bar, order something you actually like and suddenly the photoshoot becomes a date night.
Dark corners, tiny tables, interesting light and slightly tipsy giggles tend to work very nicely together.

Pick up a pizza and eat it on some random city stairs, in the park, by your car or straight from the box.
No elegant table setting required. Sometimes messy pizza is much more memorable.

If you both love food, make the photoshoot part cooking class, part date.
There will be hands covered in flour, stealing ingredients from each other, concentrating very seriously on pasta and probably plenty of opportunities for me to photograph things going slightly wrong.
On a hot wedding day, nothing beats sneaking away with your partner for a gelato break. This sweet and refreshing activity not only cools you down but also creates a relaxed, intimate moment away from the crowd. Whether strolling through picturesque streets or finding a quiet spot to sit, sharing a gelato adds a playful and authentic touch to your photos. It’s a perfect way to capture candid smiles, laughter, and the joy of simply being together.

If horses are already part of your life — or something you’ve always wanted to try — they can turn the session into a proper little adventure.
And honestly, beautiful landscape + horses + the two of you is difficult to beat.
Ride a motorcycle
If motorcycles are your thing, bring them.
Ride somewhere together, stop for a break, put the helmets down, sit on the side of the road for a minute. The motorcycle becomes part of the story instead of just a prop parked behind you.

City bikes, vintage bicycles, mountain bikes — whatever you actually ride.
We can cycle between locations, stop somewhere pretty, race each other for absolutely no reason and get a lot of movement without ever having to think about posing.

Actually, learning together might be even better: missed steps, concentration faces, laughing at each other and eventually getting one move right.

Definitely one of the bigger ideas on this list, but what an experience.
Instead of scheduling a photoshoot and then thinking about what to do during it, schedule the balloon ride and let me document the adventure around it.

Another one for the “we might as well make a memory out of this” category.
The getting ready, walking towards the helicopter, flight itself and the ridiculous views give us much more of a story than simply arriving somewhere for portraits.
Skateboarding or Roller Skating
Excellent if you already skate. Equally entertaining if one of you absolutely cannot.
Either way, you’ll be moving, holding onto each other and concentrating far too much on staying upright to worry about the camera.
Get a Tattoo together
Some couples book a little session with a tattoo artist as part of their couple photoshoot, while others take it one step further and invite a tattoo artist to the wedding itself, so guests can get tiny tattoos too.
And yes, that can include your friends, your parents… or even your grandpa if he’s feeling adventurous.
It makes the whole thing feel much more like an experience than a “photoshoot activity” — and you end up with both the photos and a very permanent souvenir.
Bowling
Colorful bowling shoes included.
It’s playful, slightly competitive and gives us lots of movement and reactions. Especially good if sitting romantically in a field sounds completely unlike you.
Visit Library or Read Books
For quieter souls.
Wander through shelves, choose books for each other, sit somewhere and read for a while. A photoshoot doesn’t always need jumping, running and big energy — calm can be beautiful too.

Go to Cinema
Make it a proper cinema date.
Tickets, popcorn, waiting for the film, neon lights outside — even the ordinary little moments around going to the movies can become part of your story.

Including a vintage or sports car in your wedding day is a dream come true, especially for car enthusiasts. It adds style, personality, and an unforgettable wow factor to your photos. Whether it’s the timeless charm of a classic car or the thrill of a sleek sports car, or maybe 4×4 off-road drive? It’s the perfect way to share your passion while creating epic memories as you drive off into your new adventure together.

Try casino
If you like a slightly glamorous, movie-night atmosphere, spend part of the evening at a casino.
Dress up, play a few rounds and treat it as a date rather than building an entire session around posing beside poker chips.

Possibly one of the easiest places to completely forget you’re being photographed.
Rollercoasters, arcade games, cotton candy, ridiculous prizes and questionable decisions at the shooting gallery — there is always something happening.

Sometimes the journey itself can be the activity.
Choose a little destination, meet at the station and turn the train ride into part of your date. Platforms, windows, compartments and waiting around all give us beautiful little moments.
Painting a picture
You can paint each other — the less seriously, the better — and reveal your masterpieces at the end. Or book a painting class and create something together that you’ll actually want to hang in your sweet home afterwards.
It gives you plenty to do, plenty to laugh about, and you leave with a little memory from the day that isn’t only a photograph.
Making Pottery
A pottery workshop gives your hands plenty to do, which means far less time wondering where they’re supposed to go.
Plus, you leave with something physical from the experience.
Explore Museum or Art Gallery
Look at things, whisper your highly professional art critiques to each other and stop wherever something catches your attention. Museums also make a beautiful option when the weather refuses to cooperate.

Hold hands because it’s romantic. Or because one of you genuinely needs help staying upright. Either version works.
Visit Aquarium
Aquariums in particular can create gorgeous light and a slower, quieter atmosphere while giving you plenty to look at besides my camera.
Play Darts
A pub date with darts is wonderfully easy.
Order something, play a few rounds and let your competitive personalities come out. There’s no requirement to pretend to be romantic every second of a couple session.
Play Pool
Pool tables give us movement, concentration, teasing and lots of opportunities for interaction without inventing anything.
And those moody bar interiors certainly don’t hurt either.
Piknikas parke
It can be beautifully styled if that’s your thing — or literally a blanket, supermarket strawberries and takeaway coffee.
The important part is having somewhere to settle down and spend time together rather than creating a picnic purely for decoration.
Go for a Hike
For couples happiest somewhere far away from city streets.
Choose a trail you actually want to explore and we’ll photograph the walk, the views, the snack stops and everything in between.
Swim in the Sea or a Lake
Yes, you can absolutely end a photoshoot by jumping into the water.
Bare feet, wet clothes, splashing each other and that slightly chaotic walk back to the car afterwards can create some of my favourite frames.
Bring Your Pets
Your dog does not need to know how to pose. Neither does your cat, although your cat will probably have opinions about the entire concept.
Bring them along and let them be exactly as chaotic, curious or uninterested as they normally are.
Camping
Pitch a tent, make breakfast outside, disappear into the woods for a weekend.
Instead of squeezing an activity into a photoshoot, this can become a little documentary of something you already love doing together.

Choose somewhere dark, bring blankets and stay out after sunset.
It’s slower, quieter and perfect for couples who would much rather lie beside each other looking at the sky than perform anything for a camera.
Fly a Kite
Simple, slightly nostalgic and surprisingly entertaining.
Also excellent on windy days when fighting the weather is clearly going to be pointless — we might as well use it.
Canoeing or Kayaking
Take the photoshoot onto the water.
There’s movement, beautiful scenery and just enough teamwork involved to reveal whether the two of you can successfully paddle in the same direction.
Beach Day
Don’t just arrive at the beach for twenty minutes of sunset portraits. Bring towels, swim, eat something, walk barefoot, play cards, lie around doing absolutely nothing. Let it actually be a beach day.
Bonfire in nature
A lovely option once the light disappears. Make a small fire where it is permitted, bring blankets and something warm to drink and spend the evening together instead of ending the session the second the sun goes down.
Playing in the Snow
Throw snowballs, make something questionable that vaguely resembles a snowman, run around and warm up afterwards with something hot.

If fishing is something one or both of you genuinely love, there’s no reason it can’t become part of the session.
Exploring a Castle or Historic Site
Especially lovely for destination sessions. Instead of simply using a castle as a pretty backdrop, explore it. Walk through rooms, climb stairs, peek through windows and make the place part of the experience.
Bake or decorate cookies
Messy kitchens are welcome. Put some music on, steal dough from the bowl, decorate cookies with wildly different levels of artistic skill and let home feel like home.
Prepare a dinner table
If you enjoy hosting, cooking or making your home cosy, include the preparation too. Flowers on the table, lighting candles, carrying plates back and forth — ordinary rituals can be surprisingly beautiful when they’re part of your life.
Clean the House Like You’re in a Movie
Yes. Cleaning.
Hear me out – put music on, dance around with the vacuum cleaner, throw laundry at each other and make a completely ordinary Sunday look suspiciously cinematic.
Home Cinema
Blankets, takeaway, popcorn, your favourite film and nowhere you need to go afterwards.
Home sessions work beautifully because you stop thinking about “the photoshoot” very quickly when you’re in your own space.
Play Vinyl Records
Pick the record together, put it on and slow everything down for a while.
Music gives a home session its own rhythm and usually leads to dancing in the living room sooner or later.
And if you’d rather make a little date out of it, visiting a vinyl record shop is absolutely worth considering too — browse through the shelves, hunt for your favourites, discover something new and maybe bring one home as a little memory from the day.

Make a Hand-Casting Keepsake
Get one of those hand-casting kits and attempt to stay still together long enough to make it work.
You’ll get an activity, probably some laughs and a little keepsake afterwards. Very efficient photoshoot planning.
Play Guitar or your favorite music instrument
If one of you plays something, bring it into the session.
Not because instruments make a nice prop, but because watching someone do something they genuinely love always tells me much more than asking them to stand nicely beside a wall.
Make Paper Boats and Let Them Float
Make a couple of paper boats, write something inside if you want and find somewhere to send them off.
Tiny idea, very little preparation, surprisingly cute result.
Bubble Guns
Will this turn into chaos? Hopefully.
Bring bubble guns outside, attack each other with them and forget about trying to look photogenic. That usually works much better anyway.
Feed Ducks
Turn a walk by the water into a tiny activity instead of simply walking back and forth for photographs.
Just check that feeding is allowed there and bring something suitable for the birds rather than the traditional loaf of white bread.
Show off your collection
Plush toys? Lego? Cameras? Coins? Vinyl? Tiny ceramic frogs accumulated for reasons nobody fully understands?
If you collect something you genuinely love, include it. Those little obsessions are part of your story too.

One rule: commit to it. A polite pillow fight looks ridiculous. A proper one gives us flying hair, terrible faces, laughter and possibly a bedroom that needs rebuilding afterwards.
The Main Rule? Pick Something You’d Actually Enjoy
You absolutely do not need to choose the most impressive idea from this list.
The best activity is the one you’d happily do even if there were no photographer there.
Maybe that’s taking a helicopter over the mountains. Maybe it’s eating McDonald’s in your wedding clothes. Maybe it’s drinking coffee on your sofa with your cat refusing to participate.
Give yourselves something to experience together, and I’ll take care of turning what happens around it into photographs.
