Civil Ceremony at Vilnius Wedding Palace

How is the whole ceremony going?

At the beginning, make sure to arrive a bit early and hand your documents to the staff (they usually check the reception hall from time to time and come to ask for them). After that, the staff will guide you to the doors you’ll use to enter the ceremony hall, and then to the exit doors at the end of the ceremony.

After the ceremony, you’ll be guided to another hall where you’ll have about 15 minutes to spend with your guests (while the next ceremony takes place).

When you can get married?

You can get married on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at this branch (Vilnius City branch).

Don’t worry if these doesn’t match your plans, since on other days, ceremonies can be arranged through the Vilnius Region Wedding Palace branch.

Both of branches have off-site ceremony option.

What documents to bring?

It’s important to bring the exact same documents you used when you submitted your marriage application. If the documents don’t match, your marriage cannot be officially registered. If you don’t remember which one you used – bring all documents.

Also, it’s important you maid of honor also bring their documents.

How much does it cost to register a marriage?

30 EUR — if you want ceremony in the Wedding palace.

70 EUR — if you want to get marry in other place (plus travel costs to the selected spot)

Where to seat guests?

I recommend deciding where you would like to seat the guests before the ceremony. If you don’t mind having them in the background, you can seat them as shown in the picture below. However, from a photographer’s perspective, I advise seating them in front of the ceremony area, so photos will look cleaner. You can take pictures with guests after ceremony.

Can we read our vows?

From what I’ve seen — yes, you can bring your vows and read them during the ceremony. Most likely, you’ll just need to ask the staff in advance and let them know you’d like to include vow reading. I’ve seen couples read vows both during ceremonies at the Vilnius Palace hall and during off-site ceremonies..

I highly recommend writing vows. The official ceremony is quite formal, and your own sincere words add warmth, sensitivity, and real emotion — something you and your guests will definitely remember. It truly elevates the whole experience.

Do we need to bring rings?

Not necessarily — these days ceremonies can be held either with a ring exchange or without it. If you do bring rings, make sure to hold the ring box visibly in your hands so the staff understands you’d like to include the ring exchange during the ceremony.

Where to register for ceremony? What are the requirements?

You can submit an application to register a marriage though “Registrų Centras“. Here you’ll be able to pick a date, surnames. Once form is submitted, your other significant would need to confirm it on their side and pay for it.

If one of you is a foreign citizen, extra requirements may apply and you’ll need to submit additional documents when filing the application:

A certificate of no impediment to marriage from your home country (confirming you’re free to marry). It must be legalised or Apostilled (unless EU/Lithuanian rules say otherwise) and translated into Lithuanian.

– If the foreign citizen is not from the EU or EFTA, you’ll also need proof of legal stay in Lithuania both when submitting the application and on the wedding day.

If either of you is divorced or widowed, you may also need:

– A divorce certificate (or equivalent document), or the death certificate of the former spouse—if this information is not already in the Lithuanian Population Register.
